πŸ‘„ My Skincare Routine

9 September 2020

Hi there everyone! It's a brand new week and I'm ready with another post that's long overdue. I'm really excited to share with you on what I include in my skincare routine now that I can affirm everything I have is doing its job for my skin. I'm no skincare junkie and I don't know much about the little special ingredients that make some products go crazy viral on social media. I'm just your every day person who tries products that I feel work for me. On a serious note, I really need to take these ingredients more seriously like hyaluronic acid, niacinimide, etc. but some days I feel like I'm taking down notes for chemistry class. Do you feel me? πŸ€£

My Skin Type
I have a combination-normal skin type. I'm quite oily around my forehead, nose and chin areas but everywhere else it's either normal or dry on some days. I've never had serious acne breakouts even when I was younger other than the occasional annoying ones that appear from time to time. I guess I'm quite blessed when it comes to that thanks to my family's genes. However, my skin is really sensitive and when exposed to certain things like cat fur, uncleaned hands, strong skincare products, it explodes like fireworks. Literally just hot red patches everywhere on my cheeks and chin. So you can imagine why I'm always very picky when trying new products. It can take me weeks for my skin to recover from one nightmarish breakout.

My Skincare Routine
I know some people take the extra level of having separate morning/day and night skincare routines. I'm still striving to have something like that but for now, I'm quite happy with just having my sunscreen lotion to differentiate between the two. Anyway, let's begin!

STEP ONE | QV Gentle Wash

I'm currently finishing my first bottle of the QV Gentle Wash cleanser and it's been a very pleasant experience. I never had any breakout episodes since I started trying it out, not even bumps or any other indications that my skin was purging against the product. It has a creamy soft foam texture that doesn't dry your skin out after rinsing it off. I take about 1 minute to thoroughly work the product on my skin, especially on my t-zone. I use this cleanser twice a day - morning and night.

STEP TWO L'Oreal Hydra Fresh Anti-Ox

Okay, I'm not going to lie on this one. I admit, the first time I bought this product was simply because the packaging was so pretty and it smelled REALLY good. But for me, it's like giving yourself a budget experience to the spa without having to go there.
That's pretty much all it is. It has some fragrance, yes, but it's the mild refreshing kind if you get what I mean. Would I repurchase this product in the future? Maybe not, but I won't mind recommending others to try. Personally for me, I would prefer to get myself a face mist that extends its function to hydrating my skin.

STEP THREE Eversoft Skinz (Timeless Youth) Multi-Corrective Toning Lotion

This is probably one of the least popular brands that is part of my skincare routine but I've been a huge fan of this product for a good 2 years now. I first fell in love with its moisturiser under the same product line - super moisturising and smells pleasant. This toner, however, has a watery-gel texture that soaks instantly into your skin and you'd feel hydrated for a long time. Not only that, it also brightens and evens out unwanted pigmentation on your skin, giving this overall healthy glow.
If you're not a fan of a little bit of fragrance, then this might not be for you. I personally love this product for the results it create on my skin and will continue to purchase it.

STEP FOUR L'Oreal Revitalift Micronized Centella Essence Water

Wow, this has got to be one of the best products that I have in my skincare collection. Don't be fooled by its watery texture because once you dab it onto your skin, it soaks right in and hydrating your skin to the max. You'll also get this dewy soft glowy feel. It's best applied just before your serums/moisturiser. And I'm not sure what it is with
L'Oreal products that I have lately, but they all just smell so good. I bought my first bottle before the MCO (the good days) and I'm nowhere near finishing it as its still way above the middle level. It's definitely worth my every penny and I'm so grateful my skin is okay with it. She can be a little annoying sometimes with how picky she is.

STEP FIVE | The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 (30ml)

Fun fact, this is my first product from the brand The Ordinary.

I know, I'm super late into the game at trying out some of their products. I've heard mostly good reviews about this particular product, especially from those who want more hydration for their skin. I've been trying this product out for almost two weeks now and WOW WOW WOW I am impressed! And my skin didn't even break out or hate me (lol). I bought the smallest bottle they had just to play safe and as a test run on my skin. I place 2-3 drops on my palm before massaging it gently on my face followed by my moisturiser. It feels really great, like I'm not sure how to specifically describe it. It has a mild sticky gel texture to it and couple it with my moisturiser? You'd get the ultimate full hydration lock for your skin. From my experience, I get this soft, moisturised bouncy feel to my skin. I'm definitely planning on purchasing a bigger bottle once this one is finished!

STEP SIX | Ceradan Skin Repair Cream (80g)

I cannot go anywhere without my Ceradan skin repair cream. I use this as my main moisturiser in my skincare routine. It's absolutely perfect for anyone with skin that is dry, sensitive and in dire need of hydration. There's no presence of any sort of fragrance you should worry about as well. This might be my second or third tube and it won't be the last one any time soon! The only con to using this product is that you can only find it in pharmacies or online shops such as Shopee. Other than that, I don't have any problems with the cream. There are two versions of this cream - gel and cream textures. If you want heavy hydration, then you can try out the cream version whereas the gel is mostly suitable for those who don't like anything sticky on their skin and for a product that disappears into their skin once its applied. OR you can also opt for both products with the cream for your night skincare routine and the other (gel) for day time when you only want to have light layers of products on your skin.

STEP SEVEN | Bio-essence Sunscreen Moisturising Cream SPF50

I've always been an extra picky buyer when it comes to sunscreens. My past experience with them have been anything but pleasant. I tend to have face breakouts whenever I did try them out. Therefore, you can assume that I did live out most parts of my life "sunscreen free" because I didn't dare to risk my face purging from its side-effects. Luckily for me, a friend recommended one of Bio-essence sunscreen products and it actually works fine for me! It has a slight white cast to it but I don't mind because most days that I wear it, I'm either home and no one to see me, or I'm outside with makeup on my face. Nobody could tell that I have it on. It has a slight fragrance but nothing too overwhelming. It does it's job too at keeping my face sunburn free.

And there you have it, my first post of my skincare routine! I hope you enjoyed it and if you're interested, I might even pop in another post about what makeup I love to wear.

  1. Omg! The simplicity! Sometimes it does wonders rather than going into more complex direction hehe. I used to do that and I KID YOU NOT my skin hated it. As time goes by, I'm getting a little more 'adult' and I don't have much time like I used to so a simple routine is really the way to go for me. And whadaya know my skin totally loves it and I don't get much breakout anymore like before. I think I made the right decision to do ingredients analysis every single time before buying a new skincare. For instance, my skin is pretty sensitive to alcohol so when I'm keen to buy a certain skincare product and it contains alcohol in it, I be like "nope. thank you, next". Just as simple as that hehe. I don't want to upset my skin, it's been through a lot.

    1. Hi Lenne! Ohmygosh hellooooo! Girl, I did the same as you did. I've tried many times to add more products into my skincare routine because that's what I've seen skincare gurus do all the time. I thought, "I can't do a 10-step skincare routine if I have less than 7 items in my existing collection!" and I spent a lot to make my routine "perfect". It never did. And my skin hated the frequent swapping of products, like it never got the chance to adapt to one before I got started with a new product again. Thus, the miserable breakouts. But I'm so glad that you've picked up a simple routine you're comfortable with and one that is actually practical for you as well. I'm perfectly happy with mine as well. I guess less is sometimes more!

  2. I feel you our skin type is quite the same but mine is a bit sensitive. I love how you take care of your skin and am so happy that it all works for you. I went back to basic and my skin are loving the changes I've made when it comes to my skincare routine. Having a very simple skincare routine is really helpful for me as I travel a lot these days even though it's only inside the country. As for me I always need to be aware of what my skin needs because it also depends on the weather and the humidity as well. You know when it's too humid your skin can get kinda oily and when you're exposed to the air conditioning your skin gets really dry. I'm not sure about you but that has been always been my concern when it comes to taking care of my skin.

    1. Hello Ray! And thank you! Yes, a simpler skincare for day to day routine is perhaps one of the best. It doesn't overwhelms the skin especially if its sensitive. And you're also very correct, a lot of factors can affect the skin like weather, humidity, etc and not all skin types can completely adapt to changing situations without breaking out or basically react negatively. I'm also glad you're getting to know your skin (it's a lifelong learning even for me). Hahaha I'll be joining your giveaway soon! Thanks for dropping by.

  7. i'm currently a skincare beginner, and my skin used to be fine, i liked it and it was perfect for me but now that i tried skincare products like serums, my face breakout quite badly. But i don't fully blame the products tho. They're good products but maybe my skin just doesn't like it. Another reason is may be caused by hormones. i really need to stop adding more products into my skincare. pls pray for me :'(

    1. Hi Aina! I'm so sorry for what you're going through.☹️ If it's hormones or just any skin concerns, perhaps visiting a dermatologist would do the trick. It'll save you the cost later for products that won't work on your skin. I hope you'll get your beautiful glowy skin back ✨✨✨
